Who's Side are We On?

A few weeks ago I posted an explanation that Catalyst is not a "Christian Foundation". That has prompted some conversations both outside and within our organization.Today I read an article from Dr. John Stackhouse that provided a well reasoned explanation of similar thinking. In part he writes:

I deliberately did not support the United Way Campaign at my former university (Manitoba) because of their funding of (prochoice) Planned Parenthood, and I told those who were soliciting contributions that Kari and I gave (substantially) to World Vision, Amnesty International, and our church. There were other organizations doing work that United Way organizations do; we found them; and we gave to them directly. But in your case, I don’t see an obvious alternative to KHL and it seems a fine thing to support, even as I share exactly your reservations about some of what they do.

I continue to seek out organizations that can further the plans and dreams of Catalyst. All else being equal (which of course it never is) it is likely that I would endorse an organization that shared the same core convictions that shape my life and the lives of Catalyst's founders. In fact, at this point I am actively trying to expand my network beyond the Christian circles where most of our time has been spent so far.I don't want to miss a chance to support excellent work just because some poorly defined label is missing on their website.
