So are you a Christian Foundation?

The short answer is no.The slightly longer answer is that while both the Executive Director and the founders of Catalyst are deeply committed to a life-changing experience of Jesus Christ we don't work with only organizations that label themselves as "christian" and we don't label Catalyst that way either. We are eager to work with the most effective organizations we can find and recognise that good is being done by both "faith-based" and "secular" charities. The even longer answer is that there is no such thing as a Christian foundation. Theologically speaking no organization can truly be Christian. To be Christian requires an active response to the revealing of God through the love of Jesus. People can do that, organizations can't. We recognise that many of our partners seek diligently to integrate their charitable work with spiritual activity and a deep desire and motivation rooted in biblical convictions. However, to label an organization as "christian" often refers to some subset or specific doctrinal subculture with which we choose to associate. It's a simple shorthand that is easily understood within the context but is opaque to those on the outside. So, Catalyst is not Christian. Many of the people we work with are, some aren't. Our funding and activity is not dedicated exclusively to organizations labelled as Christian. We think God is okay with that.
